Footy!

Okay okay. I admit. I've been worse than pathetic at keeping up with this blog. I really expected more of myself. Well, no worries, (that's my Aussie lingo kicking in), I'm determined to be better!

A couple weekends ago we got to go and experience a Melbourne-must: Aussie Rules Football, aka "footy." It's cute, they even call it footy on all the sports shows and stuff! Haha. Anyway, that's the major sport here, especially in Melbourne. Most people stop everything on Saturdays to watch the myriad of games to be played! It's totally different from American football- it seems more to be like soccer than our football, except way more rough. They kick and punch the ball to each other across a massive field, trying to kick the footy through tall poles (sort of like our football field goal thingy- except it goes all the way to the ground.) Get it? Ha. I know I know, I'm like the best sports explainer!!

K so this picture below is from a Proverbs 31 conference day at church a few weeks ago, and the girls to the right of me and Jen are Lisa (in the middle), and Kiara (on the far right). They have totally taken us in from day 1, and they are the girls that took us to the footy! So fun! We love them.
It was pretty funny, because Lisa got these tickets to the game through her work, and they were in the "Medallion Club," which meant that we had to get dressed up to go. Jen and I laughed because it was the most dressed up we had gotten since we've been here- to go to a sporting event. Ironic. Anyway, then we got there, and we were sitting outside (surprise), and no one was even dressed up at all! Apparently they weren't as strict on the dress code as they claimed to be. So we were like footy divas. Classic.

Here's a picture of the field!

Here's a pic after the game, with everyone on the field and the news crews and stuff too. There's like a million people on the field at all times during the game. It's nuts. Oh and the guys don't wear any pads at all- they just get tackled. And they each run easily 5 miles a game. It's super fast paced and pretty entertaining to watch! Oh.. and we even got to sit during the game.. unlike those lovely a&m games..

Here's a picture of a tram in Melbourne outside the stadium (with a cool building in the background!) Trams are everywhere in the City. This particular one is for tourists, that's why it looks extra historical.

This is the stadium that we went and saw the footy game in! Awesome!

Disclaimer: Jen's photos of this event will be much more interesting... especially for the girls reading this... She has a really great zoom on her camera. ;)
