Today was a really funny day. Story to come. But, it has been a while since I've updated, so here's a few things we've been doing.. as you know, harry potter #6 came out today, and to prepare for Jen's big day, we've been doing a whirlwind marathon since saturday in order to catch me up before we go see it together! (We're actually going to go see it tomorrow, since today was job-hunt day) Anyway, we've had lots and lots of harry potter. Last night we all went to the movies, and me, Jen, Caitlin, Sophie, and Alice went to see Hannah Montana while mom & Angie went to see the Proposal, and Dad & Rob to see Year One. (Funny going to the movies with people and going to see different ones!?) Suffice it to say, the hannah montana movie was super cute. Alice loved it and we told her that one of our new goals is to learn the 'hoedown throwdown' dance from the movie with her. :)
My fam had a flight out this morning at 6am, which meant they had to leave the house at 2:45am!! So, we just kept watching movies and all stayed up till they had to leave. It's so weird that they're gone now! I miss them already!!
We needed to get back to Frankston where Angie would pick us up by around 5:30 at the latest, so we hopped on a 4:08 train scheduled to arrive around 5:15 in Frankston. About 25 minutes from our destination, at a stop, the announcer (or whatever he's called) told us that they were having problems with the doors and that we would all have to get off to wait for the next train. About 10 minutes later, we all squeezed onto the crowded rush-hour train, the doors closed, and we all waited for it to move. Nothing. After 5-10 minutes the announcer came on and told us that the earlier train (the one we had just gotten off of) had been involved in a car accident, in which there was a fatality, and we all had to get off the train as there would be no more moving past that spot! I forgot to mention this earlier, but me and Jen don't have cell phones yet, so today we were supposed to borrow Sophie's. I completely forgot to bring it.
So, here we are in some strange suburb, walking with a few hundred people accross the street to a bus stop. (yeah, right.) We were kind of laughing about the fact that we were so helpless, but we knew we needed to somehow get an update to Angie, yet we had no phone! So a guy beside us around our age struck up a conversation with us and offered to let us use his phone. I'm so glad! Oh, it was also freezing outside, and the sun was going down so it was only getting colder. Meanwhile, other trains were getting to that stop, with the same predicament, leaving 2000 people stranded, waiting for mere buses to help! The guy that we met, Nick, was extremely helpful. Angie said she would come pick us up, so we went to wait in a cafe and ordered some hot chocolate till she got there. Nick felt so sorry for us silly American girls that he even paid for our hot chocolate. Haha. Who knows what he must think of us, but we were thankful! So finally Angie managed to make it through the horrific traffic, and we got back home at 7:30. (3 1/2 hours after we had gotten on the train!!) Unbelievable.
Tonight at the Hansens they hosted their Young Adults (YA) group which was fun to be apart of. The people are so so friendly here, and it was so cool to be having a small group with people halfway across the world loving the same Jesus that we do. :) We watched a Louie Giglio video tonight to kick off a new series they're doing. (Funny how even though we're in Australia, we are completely inundated with American culture) It was a really good sermon, on micah 6:8. The purpose is to walk with God. That's the whole point. How often do we get off track?
I apologize for the length... please keep praying that we would find the jobs the Lord has for us, or whatever He has for us, and that we will be enabled to serve Him and others best while we're here.
ps- for those of you who don't know Jen, here we are way back in Sydney! She's the best. I am so incredibly thankful that we are in this together. Love her. :)
