Day by Day

Friends! Alex, this is for you. :) haha no but really I'm sorry I have been so behind with the updates! (last week I had no internet, remember??) We're back in Mt. Eliza this week, and back with the Hansens, weighing out some options here.

The title of this post is 'day by day.' That is completely how we are living right now, and it is the weirdest thing ever. I don't know what will happen next week, and not even really tomorrow! Last week in Brighton that really hit us. Strange. Then I realized that in the Lord's prayer, the phrase is "give us this day our daily bread." Not more than we need, just enough to make the most of the day before us. Not less than we need either. (key word: need) Then of course when Jesus is giving His sermon on the mount, Jesus says, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (matt. 6:34) So, this is how we are living. Daily. Praying that the Lord will provide exactly what we need each day, and that He will direct our steps each day.

Here's a picture of the sunset at the beach in Brighton. The picture doesn't really do justice of course.. There are some people windsurfing too! That looked awesome, but super hard!
We did tons of job hunting in Brighton- went to soo many shops to pass out our resumes! Several said they would call, yet none have.. Yesterday we went to a neighboring suburb to mt. eliza and passed out some more, but we're just not so sure we will get hired by anyone. (Which is frustrating, when you're applying for a minimum-wage job, with a college degree.. haha) Again though, we've been praying and really seeking the Lord in this, and maybe He doesn't want us to get jobs here. Obviously we're going nuts without being busy though, so we're looking into volunteer opportunities. Today we're going to meet with a lady that Rob & Angie know who heads up some sort of ministry one town over who said that she always needs more volunteers. We've already been helping out with the youth at their church as well, and hopefully we can still get more involved. Keep praying for opportunities, and for us to recognize where the Lord wants us to serve.

On Saturday, our new friend Claire (Angie's neice), took us up to the Dandenong Mountains (about 40 minutes outside the city) and we met up with a couple of her friends who took us around some super cute towns up there, and to this lookout spot where we took some pictures. It was freezing up there, but the view was great!

Sunday I finally got to skype with my fam- which was so so good! It was funny because everyone here was crowded in the study around my laptop all talking to my family! Then Jen got to talk to her mom on the phone later, which was great for her as well. Sunday was a very nice day. Later I went running (and I'm getting killed by all the hills here), and I ran down to this beach. It's called "Canadian Bay," and it's seriously like a mile and a half from the Hansens' house. Ridiculous. I'm so going to miss this.
(And yes, I did take my camera on a run. This is the second time I had come down here, and I wanted to show you!)

Later on Sunday, the Hansens took us up to another national park close to their house, called Arthur's Seat. We didn't stay too long, but it's up on a steep hill with incredible views of sea and shore!
Dad, I think we have a similar picture of us at this spot from when I was little! I'm pretty sure it's the one on Nanny's fridge.

Beautiful. We had lunch in a restaurant up there, with all floor-to-ceiling windows facing the view. So cool! Then we made the short trip home and went to church! The Hansens' church is at 4pm on Sundays, because they share the building with another church.

Well, that's all I have for now, I hope you feel sufficiently updated, and I'll let you know how the volunteer stuff goes this week, or at least what we find out, as we keep living Day by Day. (hopefully at least some of you have that old school dc talk song stuck in your head now..)

  1. love you chels and it was great to chat for a minute last night :). it is a joy to hear someone articulate so much of what i am learning right now as well, God is a good Father and He loves to give gifts to His kids...I think sometimes He just has to teach us to view them as gifts and then everything we receive from Him is so much more wonderful! love you oodles.
