We made it!! We arrived in LA Tues. night around 8 California time, then caught the 10 pm flight to Brisbane... which was 14 hours. omg. But, I will say that if you have to fly for that long, Qantas is the way to go! The best. We had our own cute individual tv's to watch movies on and such, and the time passed quite pleasantly. Not too bad. Then in Brisbane we missed our connecting flight to Sydney because customs took forever, but they put us on a new one later, and after a lot of waiting finally arrived here in Sydney around 1:30pm Australia time! We took a taxi to our hotel, which is on the north side of the city, then took a train to Circular Quay (by the opera house), and took a ferry out to this suburb off the harbor called Manly. All these signs for "manly beach" and "manly fish 'n chips" were cracking me up.. We went and got some fish 'n chips and ate them on some steps right on the beach!
It's so so beautiful here! The city is absolutely huge- from the air it just went as far as you could see, and the harbor really is quite incredible. If you don't know Sydney then you should definitely do some google earth research and check it out- it's incredible. The temperature is quite nice too- 60's during the day, then it was a bit chilly tonight out on the water- quite a shock from our 100+ days!!
Funny story real quick- on the plane to LA I was sitting by myself, and noticed that the lady sitting next to me had an Aussie accent. We started up a conversation, and she asked what my plans were etc, so then she told me that her daughter lives up in the northern territory by Darwin, and she and her husband manage some property (around 1 million acres..), and they work a cattle station. She said they often hire backpackers to work out there- as in suggesting that for me and Jen to do! (I wish some of you could have seen my face..) She said that a lot of the movie Australia was filmed on her daughter's land!! I guess I just forget how big Australia actually is, and that people actually do live out in the country. All I ever think of is Sydney and Melbourne.
Jet Lag hasn't hit me too bad yet, I mean, I feel kind of like a zombie.. but not terrible. It's 7:30 pm here, which means it's about 4:30am back in texas (I think), but everything is just so confused. I never know when to be hungry or when to sleep (since it's winter, it also gets dark at 5:30 here!)
Okay probably should go now, tomorrow's a big day- we're going to the opera house, some beaches, some shopping, and visiting hillsong tomorrow night! We're only in Sydney till Saturday afternoon, so there's a lot to pack in!
Miss you guys already!!
